              Future Leaders of America

              Picture

One of the great experiences of the Montessori classroom is that the Children can learn how to become good leaders. In our classroom children help others to get ready to go outside, chose an appropriate work or resolve a conflict. Sometimes they help the teachers give a lesson to another child. Not only does this aid in developing their leadership ability but their own proficiency in the lesson is enhanced.

Where in the Arbor Room is Rachel Ray

              Picture
Every month Miss Kim or Miss Jocelyn puts together different food tasting for the students to experience. They use their senses to critic different types of food. The children also learn how the food is prepared or grown.  In October they tasted apples, November apple cider and tomatoes, in December they had homemade pizzelle cookies, and January they got to taste Clementine’s.  In February they will taste chocolate. After they taste the food they vote to see how many like it and how many did not.

Every day the children get a chance to try their culinary skills by preparing the food. We have had carrot cutting, orange juice squeezing, spreading jelly or cheese on crackers and a favorite of all the children, decorating small cookies with icing. Who knows which of the children in the Arbor room will become the next Rachel Ray?

              Saying Our Good Byes

              Picture
We lost our last tadpole during the holidays. For the time being, we will enjoy the beauty of the pond and its tranquil sound without wild life. Maybe in the spring we can try again to observe the tadpole’s life.

              LIFE CELEBRATION DAY

              Picture
This is a special day for a child because they get to share with their peers a peek into their life. The student’s parents, siblings and sometimes-other family members join our classroom to share pictures, and special items of the student’s life. Then every student asks their friend a question about their life. What a great way to get to know each other.

The students will be able to practice using chopsticks, learn how to write in Chinese, and discover the different animals that are on the largest continent in the world. They will also be able to read and enjoy pictures of the Asian Culture. The children can also enjoy making a sand paper drawing of the continent.
